Food Flotilla - We Need World Support
The initiative to galvanise an international people's solidarity with the plight of the Rohingya, stems from the call to protect the life of all people irrespective of creed, race, religion and nationalities.
The basis of the Food Flotilla for Myanmar is precisely intended as a wake up call to the world community. Unless the rights of the stateless Rohingya and the inhuman treatment inflicted upon them, is not resolved, they will witness the elemination of the whole race of the Rohingya in this modern age of world civilization , right before their eyes.
To halt the unjust treatment of minorities is a call to the universal principle of human rights. It is a duty for all states who have agreed to commit itself to be members of the world community , to protect the rights and dignity of the minorities. This is a universal obligation and it must be translated into real constructive measures by the Myanmar government in terms of national policies.
We therefore take upon ourselves to firmly commit our cause to ensure that this universal obligation must be respected.
The Flotilla is the culmination of the Malaysian people's commitment to make the world community to be fully accountable to the problem of the Rohingya issue. Our endeavor is to represent the universal value of the right to live and to exist.
We therefore call the world community and all nations to declare their support to the Flotilla. This is not only about delivering of food and other humanitarian aid to the affected community but also to stop the unimpeded policy of suppression against the Rohingya people.
The world must stand in solidarity to resume the basic rights of the Rohingya in Myanmar , which has been denied for decades and to promote the adoption of a policy of integration as oppose to the policy of segregation and eviction.
The Flotilla is now making its historic sail to Myanmar. Departing on the February 3 rd 2017 from Port Klang of Malaysia and sailing through the Straits of Malacca to the international waters and proceeding to Andaman Sea and finally into the Bay of Bengal, will be closely watched by the Myanmar authorities.
Although the Flotilla has been granted access to the Myanmar waters, the affirmation of the request to dock at Sittwe in Arakan is still being negotiated. As per the condition, put on the Flotilla, the entrance and port of disembarkation will only be limited to the Yangon port.
We reiterate our appreciation to the Myanmar and the Bangladesh authorities for approving the request for entry. We call for the world community to render support and to facilitate the mission under the name of unity , humanity and dignity.
